KETAMINE ASSISTED PSYCHOTHERAPY
Innovative Healing in NJ

Online and In-Home Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is accessible,  affordable and available to New Jersey residents. We offer Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for NJ residents via tele-therapy (virtual therapy) and optional, in-home therapy. Ketamine therapy can help break the persistent cycles of anxiety, OCD, treatment resistant depression, and PTSD

How Does Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Work?

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a structured process that integrates ketamine administration with therapeutic support. In combination with psychotherapy, KAP enables you to tap into altered states of consciousness and harness the biological benefits of psychedelic medicines. Not only does online KAP alleviate the stress of traveling to busy clinics, but also allows for us to offer treatment at less than half the cost of traditional in-person ketamine treatment. Here’s a how it works:

1. Initial Consultation with Journey Clinical

The process begins with a thorough evaluation by a clinician from the Journey Clinical team. This initial consultation, conducted via Zoom, covers your medical and psychiatric history. If you are eligible for KAP, a personalized treatment plan and ketamine prescription are provided. Your prescription of oral ketamine will be sent to your home, and you will receive instructions on how to self-administer the lozenges.

2. Preparation Sessions

Before the dosing session, preparation sessions are conducted to set the stage for the KAP experience. These sessions help align the therapeutic process and set intentions, ensuring that you are mentally and emotionally prepared for the dosing session.

3. KAP Dosing Session

The actual ketamine dosing session takes place in a comfortable, therapeutic environment. You will self-administer the ketamine lozenge while reclining in a peaceful setting, perhaps wearing an eye mask and listening to calming music. The session lasts between 1-2 hours, with a clinician present throughout to provide support.

4. Integration Sessions

Post-dosing, integration therapy sessions are essential for processing the experience. During these sessions, you’ll explore the memories, thoughts, and insights that arose during the ketamine session, helping to cement the therapeutic gains and prepare for future sessions.

5. Follow-up Consultations with Journey Clinical

After the first two KAP sessions, regular follow-up consultations with the Journey Clinical team ensure that the treatment is progressing effectively. These consultations monitor your outcomes and adjust the treatment plan as needed, with ketamine lozenge refills provided at a minimum of once per quarter.

What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legal and effective medication widely recognized for its ability to treat various mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Unlike traditional antidepressants that may take weeks to show effects, ketamine acts rapidly, often within 1-2 hours after administration. The positive effects can last up to two weeks, offering a significant improvement in mood and mental well-being.

Ketamine works by blocking NMDA receptors in the brain while stimulating AMPA receptors, mechanisms that promote the formation of new synaptic connections. This process is thought to enhance neural circuits that regulate mood and stress, contributing to long-term symptom relief. Additionally, ketamine has been shown to boost overall neuroplasticity, helping the brain to adapt and reorganize itself, which is crucial for lasting mental health improvements.

How Ketamine is Administered

There are several methods for administering ketamine, including intravenous (IV) infusion, intramuscular injection, nasal spray, and sublingual lozenges. Each method offers different benefits depending on the patient’s needs and the specific treatment plan. At Journey Clinical, sublingual lozenges are used due to their convenience and effectiveness in controlled, therapeutic settings.

What to Expect During a Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

The effects of ketamine are generally well-tolerated and are described by most patients as pleasant. The experience typically lasts around 45 minutes, during which patients may feel detached from their bodies, often experiencing shifts in perception that can be both profound and expansive. These effects can significantly reduce motor and verbal abilities, so patients are usually advised to lie down in a comfortable, safe environment.

Following the ketamine experience, there is often a period of introspection and discussion, where patients can process their thoughts and feelings. Although it can sometimes be challenging to articulate the experience immediately, the insights gained are often clear and meaningful. The therapeutic benefits, including mood enhancement and neurological growth, can last for up to two weeks post-treatment.

Why Choose MbD For
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

For many, talk therapy has served well, however, there are times when talk therapy falls short. That’s where Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy comes into play. It’s important to recognize that although psychedelic experiences can amplify your consciousness, these experiences could potentially escalate psychological pain without the right support. Therefore, adequate preparation and post-experience integration, facilitated by trained therapists, are crucial to creating a healing psychedelic journey. Consequently, research has shown that clients who participate in psychotherapy along with KAP see more sustained progress in their treatment than those who do not have therapy supports.

What Makes MBD Services unique?

It’s important to validate that this therapy approach can feel intimidating to many of us. That’s why we offer 3 sessions before a dosing session, as well as in-home ketamine therapy for your dosing session. Research shows that clients who receive therapy supports from a licensed professional have greater, more sustained benefits from he effects of Ketamine than those who do not have therapy supports. That being said, we want to ensure the most comfortable and effective care for our clients, which is why we offer in-home ketamine assisted therapy dosing sessions with our therapists from Mind by Design.
